McAfee Knob, VA

McAfee Knob is found in the beautiful mountains of Catawba, Virginia near Roanoke - only about an hour from my home in Lynchburg! This specific spot is said to be one of the most scenic views on the entire Appalachian trail! The crazy part is that I've lived near this breathtaking view my entire life and somehow managed to always be busy the weekends my friends chose to go. FINALLY I was able to knock this beauty off my Virginia bucketlist!

Not only were the views breathtaking from the top, but the hike to get there was also very enjoyable during the autumn season! I had to stop several times and ask for a photo op haha.

It really was the perfect weekend to hike the Knob. But nothing beats experiencing fun adventures other than experiencing them with your favorite people! Thankfully, my boyfriend and many of my close friends were able to go with us and enjoy the incredible view! My friend Sam Kerr took these amazing photos, be sure to give his Instagram some love!! 💖

WHAT TO EXPECT:

You can expect to be accompanied by many other hikers (and dogs) throughout the steady climb to the picturesque overhang of McAfee Knob. Thankfully the breathtaking view at the top provides plenty of surrounding space other than just the overhang. There are very few spots that are considered steep, but the total hike to the Knob from the VA311 parking area is about 4.4 miles (and back) - so be prepared for quite a day of walking!

Parking is free but if you go on a weekend it can get super packed. Thankfully we did find a spot, but that's only because we sort of created it lol.
